In spring 2024, photographers Philipp Czampiel and Maximilian Gödecke set out to walk the “German Unity Trail” – 1,080 kilometers from Aachen to Görlitz, across the country. Philipp, who grew up in the west, headed east. Maximilian, who grew up in the east, headed west. Two opposing movements that mirror each other, meet, and then separate again.
To mark the 35th anniversary of the reunification of the country and at the end of the first part of their projects journey, before crossing Germany from north to south, Philipp Czampiel and Maximilian Gödecke are showing a selection of their photographs at the AFF Galerie e.V. in Friedrichshain.
At the heart of this exhibition are photographic perspectives on the atmosphere that is surrounding change in this country, telling stories of encounters on the roadside, mistrust in people's eyes, and the trust that revealed itself behind strangers' doors.
